Despite the frustration of terse results at first, the advent of literacy led to the writing down of these recipes. One generation has passed down recipes orally to the next through the centuries. The recipes we use today are likely to be found on electronic devices or on websites that provide recipe sheets. Our great grandparents used to store their favorite recipes on pieces of paper or cards in recipe boxes in the old days. Keeping the cards neat and protected with lamination or similar protection is crucial in a kitchen where spills, burns, and sloppy hands are bound to happen. Post them on the wall for everyone to see, print them out and give them to everyone on staff, post them online for cooks to check from their phones, compile them in a binder or post them online so they can always find them. Recipe cards work best when they're easily accessible since they're meant to be referenced. It's the go-to cheat sheet for everything on the menu, from the recipe to ingredients to cooking procedures to plating. The name says it all: A notecard or page where you record all the details about each dish you serve. It might be a good idea to use recipe card templates so you can arrange your instructions and ingredients in an easier-to-read manner.

It is best if you have the instructions to make the dishes you will serve at the dinner table. Concocting unfamiliar dishes can be so much fun, especially when you try something new.
